Late Janakabi Kesari Dharma Raj Thapa
Bhuwan Thapa, permanent resident of Batulechour, Pokhara was born on 1st Shrawan 1981 B.S. From his childhood, he recited the religious songs. By looking his extra ordinary talent, he was given a title “Dharma Raj”. He was one of the great figures of folk song, folk religion and folk melody. He raised the folk melodies in his country and also different parts of India and become famous when he sang folk song and public song. He travelled 75 district of Nepal and searched, studied and collected folk music and folk culture and in 2013 B.S he was received a title “Janakabi Keshari” from the king Mahendra. He was one of the melodious singer and rhythmic poet.”Ho ho Male ho…” famous singer Dharma Raj has written Ratna Juneli, Rani Pokhara, Sagarmatha Ko Serofero, Tanahu Fulbari, Hamro Lok Geet, Folk Literature, Bilauna, Kaliko Lahar, Mero Nepal Bharamand, Mangali Kusum won the esteemed Madan Puraskar in 2025.
Janakabi Kesari Dharma Raj Thapa another important contribution was to motivate Gaine, the Sarangee player. He gave the name ‘Gandharva’ to Gaine. He became a manager of Radio Nepal with his contribution on folk song, folk culture and literature. To give acknowledge his contribution, he was praised by different award like Jagdamba Award and Indra Rajya Laxmi Award.
